Into the Black

I speed down the two-lane highway, the accelerator pinned. Behind me, the unearthly shrieks of my stalker grow louder.

I don’t dare look back. Losing focus isn’t an option.

A black bubbling shell appears in the right lane. I swerve, careful to miss the tentacles that suddenly sprout from underneath the darkened blob.

I race onward. The sky grows darker, blotting out the midday sun.

I skid to a stop, stunned by a long stretch of highway which is suddenly pockmarked with a dozen more shadowy masses.

I shift into gear and floor it.

The only way out is through.
