A Gilded Nest

It was dark inside the old barn. Bitterly cold, too.

Two geese shivered silently somewhere in the rear when the female began to squawk and squirm in her nest.

“What, pray tell, are you doing?” the male goose asked.

“Why proving my worth, of course” she answered.

The distressed female goose then stepped out from her nest to reveal an egg, a perfectly golden egg.

“This won’t end well,” the male goose said, shaking his slender beak.

“Oh don’t be so critical,” she said. “Farmer Mack will undoubtedly be pleased.”

“No, he won’t. He’ll want more. Always…” came the reply.
