Tough Love

I try teaching toughness. Try showing that the world is hard, despite what his hippy-dippy mother tells him.

I really thought I was getting somewhere.

Until today, the day his dog died. It wasn’t even real, not like the kind I had growing up, the flesh-and-blood kind.

Sure this thing could bark… roll over… fetch a ball like nobody’s business, but it was just an animated pile of shiny bolts and loose circuitry. And here my young son was, tears spilling down his pudgy cheeks, sobbing over his beloved, lifeless pet.

Especially when all it needed was a system upgrade.
