Early Exit

She put the old key into the ignition and gave it a twist. Her mother’s car started – big sigh of relief.

She flicked on the headlights and eased the car into gear before glancing over her shoulder, past the cargo area stacked with oversized suitcases and crates of books.

The car crept slowly, quietly out of the driveway.  

If her parents weren’t going to extend her the same courtesy they showed her siblings, then she would drive herself to her first year of college.

Resourceful, just like they suggested.

Then again there was a reason she was leaving before dawn.
