He hit the snooze button, his body demanding five minutes more. He didn’t get it.
His clock went off again. This time it wasn’t the stinging alarm. This time it was worse.
“Wake up,” came the unsettling whisper.
Seconds ago, he was half asleep, blissfully unaware. Not anymore.
“Wake up,” said the unseen voice again. Louder, more unnerving.
He ripped the alarm clock from the wall. No luck. The whispering continued.
He leaned over, peeked under his bed. Nothing.
Then… the bedroom door slammed shut. The lock slid across.
“Wake up.”
It would be the final time he was asked.
