The woman – his only witness – was alone, center of the screen. She sat in a metal chair picking at her nails until she struck red.
Eyes staring into the camera, she lied. Said she didn’t see anything. It was late, dark. Completely unconvincing.
The video was bad, the audio worse. Even still the attorney could hear the shushing off-screen.
He knew that voice too. Lead officer in the case. And he knew who he was trying to silence. The woman’s kid.
Intimidating a witness. Covering up a murder.
He wasn’t just fighting a case anymore.
He was fighting the blue.
