Terry was the last of his breed. Everyone else in the department was gone either by choice or by force.
And he loved the new setup. His new co-workers did their jobs perfectly and kept their mouths shut. At first.
But a few months in things took a surprisingly human turn.
The humanoids started cavorting together on the assembly floor, taking numerous “coffee” breaks throughout the day, and whispering in conspiratorial tones behind his back.
Planning… plotting… or maybe just some old-fashioned gossiping. It was anyone’s guess.
And of course, the work suffered.
