She stared out at the surface of the moon. Rugged and barren, exactly like the videos she obsessively consumed as a child.
She caught her reflection in the window. Gone was her shoulder length auburn hair, replaced instead by a self-inflicted buzz cut. First impressions were everything.
The first woman on the moon. The first astronaut without a spacesuit or a helmet. Just a nickel sized piece of groundbreaking, yet unproven, technology implanted behind her left ear.
She grabbed the latch to the capsule door with her bare hands and took a deep breath.
