Enemy Territory

The sound of rotor blades slicing through thick jungle air. I look up. Through the lush green, I see three helicopters thunder past.

I’m close.

A moment’s rest at the base of a soaring kapok. Sweat stings my eyes. Dark fatigues cling to my aching body. One last deep breath.

I inch forward, pistol loaded and secured at my side. A pause in conversation between two guards keeps me on edge.

I reach the barbed wire fence and peel back the flap on my sleeve. A patch of my beloved country’s flag comes into view. They’re gonna know who hit’em.
