The King should’ve been relieved. He wasn’t.
“Why?” he demanded, pounding his scepter on the cold marble floor.
“Father, please…” the Princess whispered.
“No,” the King bellowed. “No one rejects me. Tell me why!”
The Princess sighed. What a mess. Nearly drowning was embarrassing enough. Being rescued by an ogre was worse. But having the clumsy beast refuse her hand in marriage. Downright humiliating.
“He already has a wife at home. And three little ones.”
The King shifted uncomfortably on his throne. He certainly didn’t want an ogre in the family.
But somehow, having his royal offer rejected was worse.
